This page is a refence page to help you in the creation of your wiki persuasive project!

Here is some basic information about wikis:

Hints and Reminders:

  • Only one person can edit the same page at the same time--because of that, create multiple pages so that you can all work on different parts of the wiki at the same time
  • Whenever you create a new page, it is just floating out in the netherworld until you link it to your sidebar or to another page--so, your page is never lost, you just need to link it!
  • If you find a picture you want that is on a webpage on the internet, you can copy and paste that picture directly onto a page on your wiki.
  • Always hit save when you are done making changes on the page so that your group can also work on that page.

To edit your Side Bar:

  1. Choose the edit link at the bottom of the sidebar
  2. A page will open that looks like a regular wiki page
  3. Your side bar shoul have a title to tel people what they are looking at
  4. Type the title of the page that you want to link to your side bar
  5. Highlight the title and click on the Link button on the top tool bar
  6. Find the title of the page on the link to page drop down menu and make sure that the text in the box matches what you want to page to be titled as
  7. The words should look link a link now (because they are linked to the page you want!)
  8. Hit the save button and then click on the Home tab at the top of the screen
  9. Your sidebar should show up on the right of the screen
  10. The formatting for the sidebar is funky, so you may have to play with the fonts and sizes of the titles to make it look right

If you want to add a YouTube video like this one you have to do the following things to embed the YouTube video:

  1. Find the video that you want to include on your wiki and copy the embed code that is to the right of the video
  2. Go to your wiki page and click on the edit tab for the page you want to add the video to
  3. Make sure your cursor on the wiki page is at the place you want the video, and then click on the button called Insert Plugin on the right corner of the tool bar
  4. Hold your cursor over video and select YouTube Video
  5. Paste the embed code into the box provided and you will see a preview box, click okay and a green box will appear on your wiki page with the YouTube logo
  6. Save your changes and you should see the embeded video on the screen!

(Remember that you won't be able to view the video at school, but you will be able to view the videos when you present.  Make sure that all of your group members see the video and agree that it is right for your group's wiki page.)
